How to Download Instagram Reels on iPhone (2026 Guide)

Video Saver App Team··3 min read

Instagram doesn't give you a built-in "save to phone" button for Reels you didn't post. You can bookmark a Reel inside the app, but that's not the same as having the actual video file in your Camera Roll. If you want to keep a Reel offline, send it to a friend over AirDrop, or re-edit it, you need to download the file itself.

The good news: you don't need to install anything. You can do the whole thing from Safari on your iPhone in under a minute.

The quick version

  1. Open the Reel in the Instagram app.
  2. Tap the paper-airplane (Share) icon, then Copy link.
  3. Open Video Saver App in Safari and paste the link.
  4. Tap Get Info, choose your quality, and tap Download.
  5. Save the file to your Photos.

That's it. Below is the detailed walk-through in case any step trips you up.

Step 1 — Copy the Reel link

In the Instagram app, open the Reel you want. Tap the Share icon (the paper aeroplane) underneath the video, then choose Copy link. The link is now on your clipboard.

If you're browsing Instagram on the web instead, just copy the URL from the address bar — it works the same way.

Step 2 — Paste it into the downloader

Open our Instagram Reels Downloader in Safari. Tap the input box and paste the link you copied. Then tap Get Info.

Within a second or two you'll see a preview of the Reel along with the available quality options (for example, 1080p or 720p).

Step 3 — Download and save to Photos

Pick the quality you want and tap Download. The MP4 file downloads straight to your iPhone.

To move it into your Camera Roll:

  • Tap the download icon in Safari's address bar (or open the Files app → Downloads).
  • Tap the video, hit Share, then Save Video.

The Reel is now in your Photos app, ready to watch offline or share.

Why there's no watermark

Some downloaders re-record or re-encode the video and stamp their own logo on it. Video Saver App pulls the original file directly from the source, so the Reel you get is the same quality the creator uploaded — no watermark added.

A note on respecting creators

Downloading a Reel for your own offline viewing is generally fine. Re-uploading someone else's Reel as if it were your own, or using it commercially without permission, is not. If you plan to repost, credit the original creator and get their okay first. See our Terms of Use for more.

Troubleshooting

"This Reel is private." Only public Reels can be downloaded. If the account is private, there's no public file to fetch.

The download won't play. Make sure you saved it to Photos rather than leaving it in Files. If it still won't open, see our guide on fixing videos that won't play.

Nothing happens after I paste. Double-check you copied the full link (it should start with https://www.instagram.com/reel/).
